Celebrating a Life in the August Blaze

On a recent Saturday afternoon, our neighbor who lives across the gravel path, threw a celebratory party for her husband who died a week before, at age 80.

The party started at 4:00pm, the hottest time of the day. More than 150 people showed up, many of whom were overdressed.

So, whether you stood under the tent with too many people or stood in the open air, you roasted. I always wear a wide-brimmed Wallaroo hat.

The party could have been held in late September when the high temperatures are generally lower and tolerable.

At the edge of the property, near the gravel path, where there were shade trees, a large fan was set up, which cooled the alert folks who escaped the crowded tent.

Add to the August Carolina blaze blaring music in the tent.

We stayed for about an hour, and then swam home.
