Member-only story

Consequently for an adoptable infant

Before the beginning

There was a parental agreement:

Separation from baby, but then

A change of heart, and

Confetti scattered.

Wait, I passed to temporaries just over the Throggs Neck Bridge

Where the edges were glued with moo glue

But soon put through the wash, and so on to other temporaries

Who could behold and keep a 3-month old for a month (or so we thought).

The birth parents argued, reconciled, rhapsodized, and tick, tock.

It was resolved in the 18th month — adoption by new parents —

after being held in other arms, with singletons and numbers of children,

In mincing divisions of my short life.
