The crabapple tree will be great
I bought a crabapple tree last month
Half price, yeh
Whole hope I send towards next spring’s flourish
But then the surveys pelt me with “how you feeling” —
post-election and what about prices of ordinary groceries
and recalling last year’s woes and feelings
I am busy and aware and not crabby
And Alexa won’t skip the worst parts of four years
And the nihilists and killjoys will punish themselves
And everyone else
So it’s written in an acid proposal, disowned and repossessed
Work towards yours and local goals (and get sleep)
Don’t put a dancing bit of your suit in line of rubber bullets
And tear gas and truncheons
Have sense and strive and share
What is upside down and what can change in small and big ways
with our efforts
