The Meal of the Day

It’s a quiet morning

The ceiling fan in the screened-in porch was left on

Far off a tractor is mowing

Farther off Red Angus cows are lowing

The dinner under the fan was with a dear friend —

a lasagna of butternut squash, black beans, corn, green salsa,

With piped-in family,

Gold floral napkins,

And squeezed-through Doodle —

Was cherished

And the hearty leftovers

Are lunch.
